Sometimes I wonder whether or not I’ve made the right decision to be so far away from my family for college. Our family has always been fairly tight knit, in each other’s business whether we like it or not. For the most part, I’ve been happy with my decision but the strain of college and the stresses of independence make me want to curl up in my parent’s bed every now and then. We do keep in touch, sharing conversations almost every day. For example, today, I complained to my mom in a huff about riding my bike to class and getting my pants leg caught in the chain. I was late for class so there was no way I could go back, with a paper deadline looming just a few minutes ahead. I ran the rest of the way, and finally had to rip my pants from the metal chain. As I raced to the classroom door with one minute to spare, a little sign caught my eye. Class had been cancelled. I walked away in frustration, dragging my ripped pants leg and grasping my hours of pointless work. Of course my mom thought it was hilarious. It was good to talk to her and share a laugh even if it was at my expense (and the expense of my true religions!). This week has been so chaotic but my only motivation is coming from my trip to visit my family this weekend. It’s our fall break so I’ll get to stay longer than last time. So far we’ve planned a wonderful Saturday in the city, complete with lunch, shopping, dinner, and a Broadway show, followed by the Jets first game since the bye week! It should be exciting, and exactly what we need to spend some relaxing family time.

This blog entry reminds me of a Simpsons episode where Homer was riding a bike and he got his pants stuck in his bike tire and when he kept going, it ripped his pants off!

I actually sprained my ankle the week before fall break and it was horrible. I hated having to take all my exams after I got back from break. I hope you and your family are enjoying the Jets win over the Bengals sweetheart. Tell your dad I tell congrats! I hope you read my blog sometime. The JETS ARE AWESOME! :D Oh, I'm actually on fall break right now too Britt. I hope you are enjoying yours! Have a great one!

Man, what a way to start your break! I am dreading my after break courses, I have a feeling this will be me in a couple of weeks...lol Best of luck with your family and the Jets:)
brittany.
jeff ircink in Los Angeles. WI native. actor/playwright. long time Packer fan - 44 years (i'm 44, and yes I watched SB 1 & 2)/Brett fan since he's been play for the Pack...this season I've boycotted GB and am supporting your daddy and the Jets.
i blog too - www.jeffircink.blogspot.com - and you'll see that of the current 1100 or so posts i've written over the last 1 1/2 years, 218 are about your daddy (with GB, with Jets, etc). if i had a hero and didn't choose my own father, Brett would be the man. through thick and thin, my brother and i have supported Brett and will continue to do so. yeh - it was a stressful off-season...Brett retiring, then coming back and then leaving the Pack. hurtful to me what the GB did to him. it isn't business; it was for spite and control and their egos. BUSINESS decision would've been fielding the best team and that's with your daddy at QB. brett will always be a packer, we know that he'll retire a packer, but those wounds - ahh. deep. time will heal.
anyway. i wanted to say continued success in college. if you need any writing tips or feedback, i was journalism major myself, am a published playwright, freelance and blogger, do not hesitate to email me at either: weakknees@gbpackersfan.com or irc_64@hotmail.com OR jeffbumbershoot43@gmail.com
can't change that packer email cause it would involve alerting too many people and would be a huge pain in the ass.
hope your mom's feeling well these days. my aunt had breast cancer.
alright brittany. nice win against KC. i don't care that your daddy threw 3 INTS (i mean i care but...) i'll take the win first. brett's INTs never bothered me - it's a non-story. good with the bad. makes better throws more often than the bad ones (you heard all this, right?).
hang loose. you're going to school in NY right? i have a contact at NYU if you ever need an ear there.
take care. GO JETS!! and GO BRETT!!
I fell the stress of college life as well. Good luck to you and your family Brittany!!!
Brit,
Good luck at school! Your story was pretty funny, and you know what things like that happen to all of us at college. It is nice to know that even though your family is very well known, you are all still down to earth. Thank you for creating this blog and sharing your life with us! Your family is always in our prayers! Enjoy school! Take care hun!
Okay, to be honest...I'm probably your dad's biggest fan, or at least I like to think I am. I've always wanted to meet him & I thought it was so cool that you were his daughter. But to be honest, after reading this blog, I realize you're just a typical college student like me. I mean, sure, somethings are obviously REALLY different...but it's a breath of fresh air to know that normal things happen to families like you. I really enjoyed reading your entries and cannot wait for more. Hope to hear from you <3
Oh yeah...sorry to hear about your jeans, hehe :)
Your story about your pants and the bike chain made me laugh -- it was good to hear that I was not the only one with mishaps on my way to classes.
Good luck. As a lifelong (all of 22 years, lol) Packers fan, I am still cheering for your dad. He gave the league so much, I can't help but get excited for him with every TD!
I have to tell you something funny. The other day I was a consignment sale for my kids and some one had put in some True Religion jeans. My friend came up to me asking if I knew what they were and of course I didn't because I am a mom of two small kids and I just don't have time to keep up with that right now. Anyway, she was telling me I just had to get them because the were only 30 dollars and she said they are normally expensive (well for me) and you know what? I didn't get them. Nope I thought about it and thought that's two more outfits for the kids. lol I couldn't even retell the story because I couldn't remember the brand they were until I read you blog. I just remember they were some religion jeans. lol I hope you get a laugh at this as much as I did. By the way I am not as old as you think. Just in a different place in life.
I can imagine how hard it must be for you Brittany to be that far from your family. But I bet it sure makes those weekends with them so much more precious.
Hope you were able to get a new pair of jeans!!! :-)
