Looking Fourward

This game of on and off retirement has finally come to an end and I don't think I could be more relieved. All of dad's fans have watched as he toiled over the decision, mostly wanting him to continue playing. My mindset was that I just wanted him to make a decision. Any decision. Although it would have been fun to rejoin the Jets for another season, I'm proud of my dad for finally deciding to do what is best for him, without being too affected by outside influences. His decision to retire may have come after a few negative factors, like his bicep injury, but the beauty of it is that he went out under his own will. For any profession, it must be a sweet feeling to know that you are walking away still respected in your field, having people believing that you could still be successful at your position. Although he's had his fair share of tears and bruises, his career ended with him still being able to do what he loves, not because of a life changing injury or being asked to leave because no one believes in him. We all know that #4 could still run with the best of them, but what we love most is the fact that if he can't play to the full potential (of his possibly unreasonable expectations) he has set for himself, he will make way for someone else to learn the trade. I'm so ready to be able to have family time that doesn't revolve around football season, and more importantly have him visit me at school. The beauty of his profession is that he has shown the whole world what he can do, made a wonderful name for himself, and hasn't turned 40 yet. He has so much life to live, and even though football is over, he can now start to really live. He has recently discussed family cross-country road trips (Stay tuned for those stories on the blog, should be very, very interesting). So here we are, experiencing one of the most anticipated moments of the past few years, and how did I find out about his decision? I was running on the tread mill before class and noticed his name and face all over sportscenter. I didn't have headphones, so I didn't get to hear any of the coverage. Dad is a pretty private guy, to say the least.

I thought this picture was pretty funny of my Dad!

Good luck with this new chapter in your family's life. Have a blast on those road trips. And tell your dad thanks for all of the wonderful memories! This brings a new chapter in our lives, also. My husband and I started dating Feb. of 1992, just a few months before your dad took over as Green Bay's quarterback. Therefore, every fall of our lives together was spent watching your dad play football. We've only missed a handful of games. Therefore, Sundays this fall will seem strange! But we're happy for your family. God Bless.

Sincerely,
Becky M.

Family road trips! How fun!! Your dad has been so fun to watch on the field. And "meeting" your mom and hearing her story and seeing how she was an inspiration to those that were and continue to be going through what she has. We wish you all the best and look forward to reading about your family's "normal" road tripping life. Thank your dad and your family for all of the wonderful memories! Loved the picture too!

He's always been my favorite...we're all going to miss him. But thanks to your blog, we'll be able to keep up with some of what he's up to. Thanks for sharing him with all of us!

I am happy for your family and sad for us, the fans. I have been a Packer fan since I was 12 and I am ALOT older now....LOL. During the time that your Dad was a Packer was by far the best time for the Packers. Packer football was exciting again; Sundays were the best day of the week. I enjoyed watching him as a Jet, too. In my opinion, he IS and will ALWAYS be the best QB that has ever played the game. I want to thank your Dad, Mom and you girls for sharing your lives with the rest of the world. One thing that always impressed me about your Dad is that he was always just himself. What a wonderful quality in the sports industry.

I guess I should end this...lol...I could go on forever. Thank you so much Favre family and especially you Brett for a wonderful and thrilling roller coaster ride!

I wish you all the best! Keep smiling!

Bless you all...

Road trips sounds like a favrelous time!!. Take a picture or 2 to post please because that one posted now was great with Brett making that funny face. I wish all the Best to you and your Family and of course to Brett. I will miss seeing your dad play on Sundays but I am gratefull I had the pleasure of watching his whole career with alot of admiration. It was a blast. Selfishly I am sad its over. Brett Favre was the best or I should say is the Best QB there ever was to play that position. Sounds like he is just as good a husband and father.

God bless the Favres

PS
Brett its okay to change your mind again if you that itch.

I stumbled across this over on the message boards. I just wanted to say that your father has always been a personal hero of mine. I'm 28 now, so I have been watching him since I was around 12. He will truly be missed on Sundays in this household. What a great human being as well. I wish you, your dad and your entire family all the best. God Bless.

Football will never be the same. Sunday's will never be as exciting. I cannot even imagine football without number #4! My grandsons have Farve jersey's from the Packers and the Jets...and we even sing that corny song "We love Brett Farve"! But we do and we wish him nothing but the best....I think he would make a GREAT commentator. I have always loved his dry sense of humor and his "to the point" answers to some of the dumb questions that the reporters ask.

Please keep blogging and give us a glimpse into "life after football" for #4.

To #4 we say, "Thanks for the memories"! You are the BEST!

Sincerely,
Teresa P

P.S. And my old friend Ted T was so wrong

Brittany,
Words can never express the joy and excitement your dad has brought my family watching him play for the past 20 years(been a fan of his since his USM days)..however, as proud as I am for his accomplishments on the field I'm ten times as proud for him and your family for the man I've watched him become off the field...no matter what anyone ever tells you the statistics and the hearts of your dad's "true fans" will never lie....Your father is the "greatest quarterback to ever play the game..PERIOD-END OF DISCUSSION..but even more important he's that great of a person...I am proud you and your family will be able to spend more time together..yall deserve it..GOD BLESS YOU and YOUR FAMILY!!

Good Luck with the new chapter in your life. I will miss watching your Dad play. I've been a Packer fan my entire life and have always enjoyed watching your Dad play the game like a little kid playing it.

I'm so glad for you and your family to have some closure. Of course, we as fans wanted him to stay, but deep down true fans I think would admit that we wanted him to make a decision based on what was best for him and his family. I believe he's done just that! Treasure this time with your dad...I miss mine every day since he died 7 years ago and he was from Wisconsin and made me a Packer fan. He loved to watch your dad play and I still can hear him laughing after you dad did one of his acrobatic plays. You never know what tomorrow holds so live life to the fullest and don't leave anything unsaid or undone when it comes to family...it's too important! My kids love "Kungfu Panda" and my favorite quote is from there "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift...that's why it is called the present."

I'm really excited for you guys to have family time. I am relieved for your dad too, and I believe he's got a great life ahead of him. Like your dad, I will now have more time to do other things during football season, b/c I won't be glued to the TV and computer nearly as much next season, lol. My husband always claimed that "Brett Favre stole his wife for three hours every Sunday" (and then some) and it's true. He's the main reason I love football and it won't be as thrilling to watch anymore. It's a little easier this year to let him go b/c I think all my emotions were spent the first time he retired, but then maybe it hasn't hit me yet. I'll find out when football season comes around. I just know it will never be the same without him. thanks to your family for putting up with us crazy fans all these years. we appreciate you sharing him with us. you guys will always be family.

Farewell Brett, you will be greatly missed!

A big fan.

See this is what happens when you don't watch tv! I was just looking online recently to see what the latest was. There was nothing said about his retirement so I must've checked just before.

It's so bittersweet! Sad because I was looking forward to another season of watching him play (for any team, it didn't matter!). But I'm so happy that he will now have time for what REALLY matters...family :) I'm thrilled for you guys and hope that you have some great adventures together (and maybe share a moment or two with us *wink*)

Praying for you guys always! God bless you and thank you Brett for everything! It was an exciting ride!
